Carvajal says sorry to Madrid fans

Dani Carvajal has apologised to Real Madrid fans following their 4-0 demolition at the hands of Atletico Madrid in La Liga on Saturday.

Los Blancos were consigned to a heavy defeat by their city rivals at the Vicente Calderon, and the right-back had no excuses for what he perceived to be of his side’s worst performances in 2014-15.

“Firstly, I want to apologise to the fans. We weren’t equal [to Atleti] and they should be congratulated because they were better,” he said after the game.

“What we must now do is forget this match and result as soon as possible.

“[The first] 30 minutes might be Real Madrid’s worst [this season], giving up chances and not creating.

“It’s too early to read anything [into the match]. It’s still hot, but it’s true that the result affects us mentally.

“Their recent results put them in good stead. We must reverse the situation because we’re trained for it.

“[The defeat] wasn’t a cup or Champions League tie, but I insist it still hurts. It must be forgotten soon.

“It’s true that we’ve won recent derbies, but at the end of the season we’ll see who gets the headlines.”
