Former Real Madrid and Barcelona winger Luis Figo has claimed that there were possibly better players than Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi during his era.
The Portugal great won numerous pieces of silverware in a highly-successful playing career which spanned over two decades, but he believes some of his former friends and foes on the pitch were arguably more talented than the Clasico superstars.
“I think this year, the Champions League will be won by either Madrid, Barcelona, Bayern or Chelsea,” he said at a promotional event on Wednesday.
“I think there’s almost a monopoly [in La Liga] between the two strongest teams of all time in Real Madrid and Barcelona.”
“Messi and Cristiano are players who make the difference more so than anyone else.
“I’ve had the pleasure of playing alongside great players, both as teammates and opponents, possibly better than Cristiano and Messi.
“[My future?] Maybe a career in management, but I haven’t looked into it yet.”
