Gerard Gumbau and Alen Halilovic struggled to contain themselves after they both debuted for Barcelona's senior team against Elche last night.
The midfielder, likened to Steven Gerrard, completed the entirety of La Blaugrana's 4-0 victory over the Valencians in the Copa del Rey last 16, while the Croatian attacker replaced fellow B starlet Adama Traore midway through the second half.
“With sacrifice, hard work and a good mentality, you can get things done,” Gumbau said after the game.
“I quickly learned that at the hotel before coming to the stadium. The coach told me to relax and play as I have done for the B team.
"I'll keep my jersey and remember all the excitement. I enjoyed every minute of it. It's a dream which will eventually sink in.”
Meanwhile, Halilovic noted: “I'm very happy. I thank the Coach and all of Barcelona for letting me debut in official competition.
"I need to work hard. I think I'm very young and have plenty of time to improve. Ivan [Rakitic] has helped me with everything so far.”
