Florentino Perez insists Cristiano Ronaldo is working towards a fourth Ballon d’Or award.
The Real Madrid President, who saw the Portuguese pick up the prestigious trophy for a third time in Zurich on Monday night, says Ronaldo is now targeting Lionel Messi’s four wins.
“Cristiano wants to break all records. He is working towards a fourth Ballon d’Or and has started very well,” Perez told reporters after the ceremony.
“Although it is important, as he said, it is the way the team are playing, at the top of the League, that generates enthusiasm and the fruits of this are shown in individual awards.”
On the other awards won by Madrid players, with Sergio Ramos and Toni Kroos in the ideal XI and James Rodriguez winning the prize for best goal, Perez described it as a feather in the club’s cap.
“It was a feast for Real Madrid but we have to continue working with even more humility so we can collect even more titles next year.
“I’m delighted Ramos is in the ideal XI for a fifth time and also for Kroos and James, who got their awards. During the World Cup we saw they were the best players and we are fortunate to have them.
“And we must not forget Angel di Maria who was rewarded for the effort he put in at Real Madrid.”
Perez went on to congratulate Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti, who came second in the vote for best Coach, which eventually went to Germany’s Joachim Low.
“I’m convinced Carlo will win the award next year so it’s not a disappointment. When everything is going well it’s as a collective thing and the Coach is important, as are the players, fans, the dressing room atmosphere and the will to win, so we are very pleased at how the season has started.
“I try to keep up with everything at the best club of the 20th century and that’s a responsibility.
“I also try to do what [former President] Santiago Bernabeu did, with the best players in the world, Spain, and from the youth team, so that Real Madrid’s identity is maintained, although we have a lot of competition,” he concluded.
