Nuno awaits ‘greatest success’

Nuno Santo hailed Valencia’s 2-1 victory over Real Madrid on Sunday, even if “our greatest success is yet to come”.

Los Che ended the capital giants’ 22-match winning streak courtesy of second-half goals from Antonio Barragan and Nicolas Otamendi at Mestalla, and the Coach felt his side were yet to peak, with the race for Champions League qualification hotting up in La Liga.

“There’s great merit attached to this victory, but I still think our greatest success is yet to come,” he said after the match.

“This [3-5-2] system can give us much in an attacking sense because we can play with two strikers, but we must still work on the variety of systems we use. They can all give us a lot.

“It was a great victory, but we still only have 34 points and now’s not the time to celebrate anything, although people are allowed to savour it.

“Enzo [Perez] had a great match. He offered the balance needed for a three-man central midfield to work.

“However, we can’t forget the other midfielders Filipe or Zuculini, they also can help us.”
