‘La Real had to be a team vs Barca’

Real Sociedad hero Geronimo Rulli felt his side ‘had to be a team’ in order to beat Barcelona on Sunday.

The Argentine goalkeeper was in top form against the Catalans, having made a series of important saves to preserve La Real’s 1-0 victory, and he praised his colleagues for collectively producing a flawless performance at Anoeta.

“I’m happy because we won and got the three points. We knew they were great opponents, so we’re very happy to win,” he mused after the match.

“We analysed during the week how to win the match, and now we can enjoy these three points.

“We had to be a team to win. If we work like this from now on, we’ll gain more positive results.

“I don’t like to speak about individuals, I prefer to look at the collective, and we were perfect in that sense. We knew how to handle the game from the start.

“From this point onwards, we must be strong. We can’t drop any points here [at Anoeta], this is the way forward.

“I don’t know if we we’re lucky. Although they had possession, we covered great space. All the credit is ours, we ran for the entire 90 minutes.”
