Chelsea in failed Bale bid?

Chelsea have allegedly made a €130m bid for Real Madrid’s Gareth Bale in a bid to hijack Manchester United’s interest in the player.

El Chiringuito claims the offer from the Premier League outfit was lodged last week but saw it turned down by Madrid President Florentino Perez, who said on Tuesday that the Welshman was going nowhere.

United are understood to have put aside over €100m in an attempt to lure Bale to Old Trafford, while Madrid have been linked with Reds’ goalkeeper David de Gea and also Chelsea’s Eden Hazard, who would be a direct replacement for the former Tottenham Hotspur player.

The buyout clause in Bale’s contract is believed to be a staggering €1bn and the European champions are unlikely to sell unless they get exactly what they want.

On the other hand, if Chelsea return with an improved offer it could spark a bidding war between the two English giants in an attempt to force Madrid’s hand.
