Luka Modric says he will not rush his recovery from injury as he wants to prepare for Real Madrid's 'important battles' in optimal shape.
The midfielder is nearing a comeback from a thigh setback, which has kept him sidelined since mid-November, and he has spoken of his delight at seeing his return coincide with the business part of the season.
"Forecasts have indicated that in mid-February I could play again. I won't rush my recovery, but I'll be ready for important battles." the Croat intimated to Sportske Novosti.
"When I was told I faced three months out, I feared the worst as I remembered when I broke my leg in 2009, but in the end I looked on the bright side.
"If it had to happen, it's better that it did during this period so I can return in time for the first round of matches with titles at stake.
"I think Madrid can become the first club to win the Champions League twice in a row.
"They told us not to worry when [Angel] Di Maria and Xabi Alonso left. [Toni] Kroos and James [Rodriguez] are sensational, and the results have been even better.
"Much of the credit for the results must go to [Carlo] Ancelotti. He can be the Coach of Madrid for many years, like [Sir Alex] Ferguson at [Manchester] United.
"Cristiano [Ronaldo]'s the best forward in the world. He has the charisma of a winner and fears nothing. I've been also very impressed by [Dani] Carvajal.
"I knew he'd reach Madrid's heights, but I've been impressed with his attributes."
