‘Hopefully Reus doesn’t join Madrid’

Paul Breitner has admitted that he 'hopes' Bayern Munich sign Marco Reus from Borussia Dortmund, amidst reported interest from Real Madrid.

The Germany winger, although currently injured, has been repeatedly linked with the pair of European giants, but the former midfielder, who represented both clubs and is now the Bavarians' head of PR, advised the 25-year-old to stay in the country with the Bundesliga champions.

"I hope Reus decides to join our club [Bayern]," he told Sport1 today.

Despite Matthias Sammer recently denying Bayern's involvement in talks with Reus, along with the player's agent corroborating the claim, AS believe the sporting director's employers intend to change tact by beginning to tout their interest.

The newspaper continues by suggesting that Los Blancos remain firmly on the forward's trail and are keeping tabs on his recovery from knee ligament damage.

Reus reportedly declined to enter talks with Dortmund over a renewal, with his present deal expiring at the end of next season and a €25m buyout clause still in place, while he is believed to be learning Spanish.
