Santos line up Malaga goalkeeper

Santos are lining up a January swoop for out-of-favour Malaga goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa.

The Mexican international was signed on a free transfer in the summer following some outstanding performances in the World Cup, having been with French outfit Ajaccio for the previous three years.

However, he has been unable to dislodge Carlos Kameni from the No 1 spot at La Rosaleda and is growing increasingly frustrated at his situation, while he is understood to be weighing up his options come the next transfer window.

Liverpool, Arsenal and Trabzonspor have all been linked with the 29-year-old and the latest club to throw their hat into the ring is Brazilian giants Santos, where elections for their presidency are being held in December.

Favourite to win is Nabil Khaznadar, who told AS they have already started an offensive to capture Ochoa’s signature.

“We are interested in several players from La Liga and one of them is Ochoa. At Santos we don’t have a good goalkeeper and Ochoa meets all the requirements,” he revealed.

“We want a great player and an icon in terms of marketing, and we believe in his potential after what we saw in the World Cup.

“Even so, I can’t promise there has been any agreement. Ochoa is a great name but there is still nothing confirmed.”
