Marc Bartra has no problem with competition at Barcelona and says he’ll play in goal if it means getting a place in the team.
The defender has been interviewed by Mundo Deportivo and spoke extensively regarding his position at Camp Nou and the situation of Gerard Pique.
“I consider Gerard a good friend. We get along very well and he looks good to me. Everyone wants to play but you can’t always, not on a team like Barcelona, where there is a lot of competition,” Bartra said.
“He has to live with the football part, with the Press part…He is looked at more closely than other players but everyone has to be aware of their environment and their surroundings and he is.
“The fact that we all play is good for Barca. There are a number of players who can be in the team and with increased competition, the team’s level rises.
“I like playing at right-back. I played there at youth level and in the B team with Luis Enrique I played there. If need be I’ll play in goal.”
Bartra was asked directly about speculation Enrique doesn’t speak with the players and the players were unhappy about the lack of communication.
“It’s not true. There’s a lot of speculation but what’s most important is we are clear with the ideas and have a good feeling and I think we do,” he replied.
“The Coach is able to pull this off. With Barca B, which was at its best with him as Coach, we had difficult moments when it seemed he wouldn’t know how to react but look after that and there were very good years.
“We have to think in the present, do well in the next game and not think about the negativity. We have to be positive. The Coach can be here for many years helping us.
“The more isolated we are from what is being said, the better. It’s important to be very close and the players and the Coach can be focused on what we have to do because it’s normal the club is in the public eye.
“It’s normal for people to give their opinions but we have to move on.”
