Former Barcelona President Joan Laporta has refused to rule out again standing in club elections after legal action was settled in his favour.
Mundo Deportivo reports that a case filed by the current Barca board against Laporta and other former board members regarding the club’s financial position came down on Laporta’s side.
Speaking to reporters at the Catalan College of Journalists, Laporta reflected on the outcome and looked to the future.
“The judge said that our economic results are positive, that Barca weren’t ruined and we left a solvent club,” he is quoted as saying.
“The current board wanted to sow doubt after we won everything. The process damaged the image of the club.
“I just hope it’s over. It’s of no benefit to the club.”
Laporta was also highly critical of Josep Maria Bartomeu, the current President, who replaced Sandro Rosell when Rosell stepped down due to the Neymar case earlier this year.
“Bartomeu is another face of the same coin. Nothing has changed. There is a President who escaped without explanation and one who it appears no one voted for,” he continued.
“The decision of this case has no regard [to running for President in 2016]. It was a matter of honour and credibility.
“But I’m not ruling out getting involved because I don’t think the current board are doing very well.
“I have an advantage in that I’ve already done the job. I haven’t thought that far ahead but in principle, elections should be in 2016.”
