‘How could Spain not pick Costa?’

Spain assistant Toni Grande has said that if Diego Costa is fit, he will be part of the next national team squad.

The fitness of Costa has caused a running battle between Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho and the Roja management.

It was revealed recently that Costa had to be hospitalised with a virus and even before Spain’s last internationals, Mourinho and Vicente Del Bosque were at odds over the striker.

Mourinho was unhappy Costa was called up at all and Grande has revealed that if Costa had scored in the first half against Luxembourg, he would have been substituted at half-time.

Costa scored his first Spain goal in the second half and played the full game, but hasn’t played since.

“It was a relief for everyone he scored. He’ll be in the next squad if he’s healthy,” Grande told Radio Marca, AS reports.

“How could we go without him, the top scorer in England? We would be crazy.”
