Madrid to sue TV channel?

Real Madrid’s legal department is contemplating taking Catalunya’s TV3 to court following the screening of a documentary last Thursday.

The controversial programme, entitled ‘The real Madrid. The dark past behind Real’s white glory’, makes a point of the club’s relationship with the late dictator Francisco Franco, insinuating that many of their triumphs were a result of this association.

Marca reports that Los Blancos are unhappy with the way they feel their club has been manipulated and are mulling over legal action.

The documentary, directed by journalist Carles Torras, uses words from Real Madrid fans that apparently back up the idea of the special connection with Franco.

However, some of the participants, including journalists Miguel Ors and the President of the Veterans’ Association, Ignacio Zoco, believe their words have been taken out of context.

It is not the first time TV3 has upset the Madrid hierarchy, with a previous video broadcast that likened the players under Jose Mourinho to ‘hyenas; also ending up in court, with a resulting €20,000 indemnity payment to the club.

The programme that aired the video, called ‘Sense Ficcio’ (Without Fiction), lasted 140 minutes and centred on accusations of complicity between Real Madrid and Franco.

It was claimed that the Santiago Bernabeu was built with public money and that the legendary Alfredo Di Stefano only ended up playing for Madrid thanks to the regime, after allegedly being signed by Barcelona.
