Atleti join race for Cech

Atletico Madrid have joined Roma in the race to sign Chelsea’s out-of-favour goalkeeper Petr Cech.

The 32-year-old has lost his place in Jose Mourinho’s starting line-up to former Atleti stopper Thibaut Courtois, and has hinted he is ready to quit Stamford Bridge after 10 years at the club in search of regular first-team action.

“There is no time for me to sit on the bench and not play. If the situation doesn’t improve I will have to find a solution,” he recently told Czech media.

Tuttomercatoweb.com reports that the news has alerted Los Rojiblancos’ boss Diego Simeone, who despite having Miguel Angel Moya and Jan Oblak competing for the ‘keepers’ role would welcome Cech’s experience as he looks to replicate last season’s success.
