Xavi Hernandez has admitted he isn’t happy with his situation at Barcelona, having been used mostly as a reserve by Luis Enrique.
The veteran was speaking at a sponsor’s event and discussed a number of subjects, from his role in the team to the weekend’s game against Rayo Vallecano.
He also reflected on the midweek Champions League defeat against Paris Saint-Germain, AS reports.
“In games like the one in Paris we’ve made too many errors, both at set-pieces and turning over the ball,” Xavi admitted.
“We didn’t play a great match but we deserved a draw. It wasn’t a debacle and the team feels positive. We’re on the right path.”
Xavi was less positive regarding his lack of playing time, although he bowed to Enrique’s authority over the make-up of the XI.
“I can’t settle for being a back-up. I want to play as much as I can and change my current situation,” he continued.
“But the team comes first and the Coach decides. It’s not a dramatic situation for me and I will try to change it so I feel more useful.
“I’m still happy I stayed at Barca. There was no agreement over my role with Luis Enrique.”
Barca next take on Rayo and Xavi predicted an entertaining game as the Vallecas side will take the game to the Catalans.
“Paco Jemez is a fantastic Coach. He’s brave and he doesn’t speculate,” Xavi added.
“I admire him greatly. Rayo will have the ball and we’ll try to win it back. It’ll be a fun game.”
