Depor Coach taking the positives

Deportivo La Coruna Coach Victor Fernandez insists he and his team can take some positives from the 8-2 defeat against Real Madrid.

Fernandez told his post-match Press conference that the score line was not representative of his side’s performance, although he did admit the result is devastating.

“It’s a disproportionate punishment,” Fernandez argued.

“Within a terrible result there are positives. The final score doesn’t reflect what happened on the pitch.

“The first 30 minutes were even. James’ goal did a lot of damage and going three goals down even more. We wanted to get back into the game when we scored but 4-1 was too big a score.

“From there we lacked intensity and our errors were penalised with goals.

“We showed personality and the strategy in the first 30 minutes was executed well. I prefer a courageous and determined team to one that folds and cowers in their half.”

Fernandez added that the Deportivo centre-backs, Sidnei and Modibo Diakite, should get a favourable hearing when their performances are judged, and vowed his team would be ready for the derby against Celta Vigo in midweek.

“Don’t be harsh on [Sidnei and Diakite]. It was a tough match,” he asked.

“We will get to the derby in good physical and emotional condition. It’s another game and the same thing won’t happen as against Madrid.”
