Real Madrid have won their legal action against TV3, a Catalan station, over a video that compared the attitude of some players to hyenas.
AS reports a court in the capital found in Los Blancos’ favour over a 2013 broadcast. Madrid filed suit against TV3 and three of the network executives over defamation of character.
Madrid asked for €6m in damages, receiving €20,000.
TV3 did apologise for the airing of the video but the judge still found against the network. The broadcast came shortly before a Madrid vs. Barcelona match in February of last year.
The video compared Xabi Alonso, Alvaro Arbeloa and Pepe to hyenas and featured Pepe in a Hannibal Lecter-style mask.
It also showed a Pepe stamp on a Getafe player, as well as a similar incident involving Juanito, from some 27 years earlier and a game against Bayern Munich.
