Rodrigo targeting Spain call

Rodrigo Moreno has revealed part of his motivation to join Valencia was to try and get back in the Spain set-up.

The forward left Benfica for Los Che over the summer and has said he did want to return to La Liga, with being noticed by Vicente Del Bosque a primary concern.

“I wanted to return to Spain, which is also important for the national team,” AS reports Rodrigo as telling Portuguese publication A Bola.

“I will have greater visibility for that. The national team is a great goal but first I want to do well with Valencia.”

AS note Rodrigo was brought to Mestalla by prospective owner Peter Lim, who controls his registration through his Meriton group.

Rodrigo added he isn’t concerned by his ownership status and added he would recommend moving to Valencia to anyone, including former Benfica teammate Enzo Perez.

Perez has been mooted as a Valencia target and a move was said to be close before the transfer window closed, Rodrigo saying he hopes Perez arrives in the winter.

“The people here really wanted him to come this summer but ended up hiring another player,” he continued.

“[Alvaro] Negredo was signing one thing for another. I don’t know the situation with Enzo and if its closed, but maybe he can come in January.

“Now we have to concentrate on the League.”
