Zubi welcomes Barca depth

Andoni Zubizarreta is pleased with the deep Barcelona squad available to Coach Luis Enrique.

Enrique was able to bring Neymar off the bench against Athletic Bilbao, the Brazil captain scoring twice in a 2-0 win.

Speaking to reporters after the game, Zubi said that tactical decisions rest with Enrique but it’s good that he has plenty of options to choose from.

“The Coach chooses and he has an excellent team available,” AS reports Zubi as saying.

“We know Neymar can create and score. It helps the team when the competition is greater.”

Zubi also touched on Munir El Haddadi, who started the game and was replaced after an hour by Neymar.

“He’s developing, which we have seen in the juveniles and we know he has the profile of a forward and is good in front of goal,” he continued.

“I haven’t seen the replay of the goal he had disallowed.”

As for Lionel Messi, who created both of Neymar’s goals, Zubizarreta contended that far from being back to his best, Messi was never anything but.

“He can do everything. He’s never let us down, when he’s had physical or emotional things going on, he has always helped us,” Zubi added.

“He’s always been there to add something. When Leo’s involved there’s a lot added.”

Enrique will soon be able to call on Luis Suarez, who was at Camp Nou and will be able to play in late October.

“He’s a player and he wants to play. We know the situation, that the first game he can play is the Clasico,” Zubizarreta said of the Uruguayan.

“Football takes many turns in a few days so let’s focus on now and Apoel away before the Clasico. There’s still many points to play for.

“This was the first game after the internationals and it’s always demanding.”
