Cristiano working for derby fitness

Cristiano Ronaldo is said to be training six hours a day in order to be fit to line up for Real Madrid against Atletico Madrid.

AS reports the forward was training yesterday, on what was supposed to be a day off, and is expected to return to full training with the Madrid squad in midweek.

Ronaldo was injured in the Supercopa de Espana, hurting his back, which, coupled with his lack of pre-season training, hampered his fitness a great deal, it’s explained.

He missed Madrid’s last game before the international break, the defeat to Real Sociedad, and wasn’t included in the Portugal squad.

Ronaldo is working two three-hour sessions with the short-term goal of facing Atletico and the long-term aim of avoiding further fitness problems in the rest of the season.
