Spain plummet in FIFA rankings

Spain have fallen to eighth in the FIFA rankings following their early exit from the World Cup, with winners Germany moving to top spot.

FIFA have today published the first post-tournament rankings and the World Cup’s top three fill the top three places – Argentina are second and the Netherlands are third.

Colombia have gone fourth and Belgium are in fifth place after they reached the latter stages of the competition.

Portugal, Italy and England have fallen in the manner of Spain, with the Portuguese out of the top 10, Italy slipping to 14th and England dropping to 20th. All three, like Spain, failed to get out the group stage.
