Zubi on Pedro, Xavi & Alexis

Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has given an update as to the status of Pedro, Alexis Sanchez and Xavi Hernandez.

Mundo Deportivo reports Zubi as speaking during the presentation of Ivan Rakitic as a Barcelona player, and the discussion turned to the trio of current Barca stars.

“We talked [with Xavi] before the World Cup and he decided to think and analyse the situation,” Zubizarreta said.

“He is our player and after his holiday, we’ll talk.

“Any news is good. He has time to think but he is still the No. 6 on the list.

“No one is essential anymore. Xavi is a symbol, a defining element of our best game and we’re not just talking about any player. The conversation has to be clear and transparent.

“If Xavi stays at Barca, he’ll be happy, because we’ll provide everything. If there are other avenues, we’ll talk.

“As of July 1 Xavi is with us. We’re taking stock of the situation. When he’s back from vacation we’ll talk, look face-to-face and make a decision.”

On Alexis and Pedro, Zubi admitted he was unsure about the former but definitive about the latter.

“Pedro can’t be transferred,” he said.

“I don’t know [if Alexis will stay with us]. He is extraordinary and has shown his level at the World Cup, where he was one of the best.”
