Sergio Ramos has said Spain’s six years of success is something to look back upon with pride after World Cup elimination.
Ramos also insisted that Spain’s problem was not a lack of desire on behalf of the players but they were simply outplayed over two games.
“Obviously we went out to give everything and we can’t forget that each time a player wears the shirt it’s with pride and hunger,” the Real Madrid man said, according to AS.
“But no one lives in the past and the success of these years has been and we know we have to turn the page after the titles.
“We came with hope and we have not lived up to it.
“I don’t think it’s the end of the cycle. That’s an excuse. I have confidence in all the players that are here.
“We had to get to the day when we didn’t win and it’s touching our lives now.
“My head is high and I’m proud of having lived in this glorious era. Please continue to have confidence because this team deserves respect after these years.”
It’s already been suggested that Vicente Del Bosque’s time as Coach will come to an end after the tournament and Ramos said the players will respect his decision if he steps away.
“We have no say in the decision of the Coach. He has our respect,” he added.
“We have lived magnificent years with a great Coach and person. We will be with him whatever he decides.
“If he continues it will be a great joy but his decision will be respected.
“There will be many people who are glad of this defeat but I doubt they are in our country because we have made people proud to feel Spanish.”
Ramos also warned against pointing fingers and blaming individuals for the disappointment.
