Xavi future still in doubt

There’s no resolution to the questions regarding Xavi Hernandez’s future at Barcelona, according to reports in Spain.

Mundo Deportivo have said that Xavi was stung by criticism of his performance in Spain’s 5-1 defeat to the Netherlands, with condemnation even coming from the Catalan Press.

He is said to be seriously considering offers from Qatar and the United States but suggestions Barca are paving the way for his exit are understood to be wide of the mark.

While Luis Enrique is keen to refresh the Barca midfield – through the signing of Ivan Rakitic and the pursuit of Koke – it’s not certain that Xavi would be a victim of the new arrivals.

MD point out, however, that Enrique and Xavi are still yet to speak face-to-face and one year of Xavi’s salary could pay for at least two of Koke’s, should he join from Atletico Madrid.

Andres Iniesta recently had his contract renewed which would rule out him leaving Camp Nou and with Cesc Fabregas already gone, Xavi is essentially the only doubt.

Javier Mascherano has also signed a new deal and Enrique has spoken of the Argentine as a potential captain in the absence of Carles Puyol, further throwing Xavi’s future into question.

But Xavi does have a Barca contract until 2016 and it’s not known if La Blaugrana will let him leave.
