Cristiano Ronaldo insists he is 100% fit as Portugal prepare to face Germany in their World Cup opener.
The Real Madrid forward said at a Press conference that he has become accustomed to playing with minor injuries and wouldn’t risk doing anything to harm his career by playing when he shouldn’t.
“I wanted to be 110%, but I’m 100%. It’s enough to help my team,” AS reports Ronaldo as saying.
“I’m used to these unfortunate statements by people [who claimed Ronaldo wouldn’t be fit]. If I’m here it’s because I want to help.
“I’m the first to tell the Coach I can’t play. If I feel a problem, which I don’t expect to happen, I won’t jeopardize my career. I’m first, and then football.
“I’m fine. I wanted to be without pain, but that’s not possible. Since I’ve played football I don’t remember any game without pain. It’s part of the job.”
Ronaldo also rejected the suggestion that he is the only player in the Portugal team the opposition have to be concerned with.
“One player does not make a team. I can make a difference in many games but to be a champion you have to be a team,” he argued.
“There are a lot of new players [in the Portugal team]. So at the end we will take account, but we’re all good.”
