‘Chelsea next year? Maybe, yes’

Diego Costa has suggested he will be a Chelsea player next year, although the Spain striker stopped short of providing full confirmation.

AS reports that Costa was questioned in the mixed zone following Spain’s 2-0 win over El Salvador and the subject of his proposed move to the Blues was briefly raised.

“Well, maybe yes,” was the Atletico Madrid forward’s reply when asked if he will be playing for Chelsea next season.

He was more forthcoming on the status of his hamstring injury after playing 70 minutes against the Central Americans.

“The injury was there and you’re left with the doubt if you can come back alright, but you can. I felt very good,” Costa revealed.

“The truth is that it’s been a good week and I’ve felt better every day, but the important thing was to prove it in the game.

“The injury was still in my head but I felt good and that has helped take away the thorn I had on the subject.”

The upcoming World Cup will be Costa’s first and he returns to his homeland having chosen to represent La Roja over Brazil, fully aware that he might not be welcomed by the locals.

“It depends on the way the people there have interpreted things. But I’m very happy,” he said.

“We’ll see how the reception is but either way I’m looking forward to playing a World Cup there with Spain.”
