Xavi and Enrique in talks

Xavi Hernandez and Barcelona Coach Luis Enrique have spoken about the player’s future under the newly-appointed boss.

AS reports a phone conversation has taken place between the pair in which they discussed Xavi’s role for next season.

But nothing was settled and the discussion will be revisited once Spain’s involvement in the World Cup is over.

Xavi is understood to have offers from MLS and Qatar, with the latter approach including the establishment of football camps in the region under Xavi’s name.

There’s the opportunity for Xavi to play in Qatar or move to New York City FC, the MLS franchise co-owned by Manchester City that David Villa last week agreed to join.

It’s even suggested that Xavi could play for City in the Premier League, if he accepts the offer from City owner Sheikh Mansour.

Xavi isn’t likely to be first-choice next season under Enrique, the report continues, as he won’t have the physical capability to play the 45 games or more that will constitute Barca’s campaign.

But Xavi would still have a role as one of the leaders of the team, although he hasn’t made a decision on his next step.
