Xavi to consider Barca future after WC

Xavi Hernandez will decide his Barcelona future once Spain’s involvement at the World Cup comes to an end, reports in Spain have said.

Marca cite claims from Catalonian radio that say Xavi will listen to offers from elsewhere and has yet to have a meeting with new Barca Coach Luis Enrique.

Xavi was on holiday at the time Enrique was appointed and has since been preparing for the World Cup with the national team.

He has two years remaining on his Barca contract but it is questioned if he can adapt to the physical demands of Enrique’s style of play and his position within the team needs to be clarified.

Marca add that if Xavi does leave, his natural successors at the club have both either moved on already or are about to – Thiago Alcantara, who joined Bayern Munich last summer, and Cesc Fabregas, who is expected to sign for Chelsea.

Ivan Rakitic is likely to come in from Sevilla while Xavi could follow David Villa to New York City FC, whose high command includes a number of former Barca figures.
