Madrid still want Suarez

Real Madrid have not given up on signing Luis Suarez from Liverpool with Marca reporting the Uruguay forward is this summer’s big target.

It’s claimed that Los Blancos will part with €80m to tempt Suarez away from Anfield and Madrid believe Suarez is a player who can help land an 11th European Cup.

Karim Benzema wouldn’t be affected by the signing of Suarez as the intention of President Florentino Perez is to bolster the attacking options of Carlo Ancelotti.

Marca add that Madrid have made an agreement with the player a year ago but the move broke down when it became clear Gareth Bale wanted to leave Tottenham Hotspur.

But Suarez remains high on Perez’s agenda and would remedy the feeling at Santiago Bernabeu that the club ran out of firepower towards the end of the season.

Ancelotti has other priorities for new faces for the coming campaign but wouldn’t protest if Perez delivered the former Ajax man.

The futures of Diego Lopez and Iker Casillas in goal, Fabio Coentrao at left-back and Angel Di Maria are all up in the air. Ancelotti has however drawn up a list of alternatives should any of those players depart.
