‘Ramos the best in the world’

Carlo Ancelotti has compared Sergio Ramos to Milan icon Paolo Maldini and described the Real Madrid man as the best defender in the world.

Ancelotti was speaking on Madrid’s television channel for an interview in which he also described Los Blancos as ‘a religion.’

“Ramos was another player after Christmas,” Ancelotti said.

“He has the personality and quality of Maldini, inside and outside. Ramos is the best defender in the world.

“Maldini started to play in the centre at 34. Ramos was before that. I put him at right-back in Turin and he was not happy.”

Ancelotti also discussed a number of Ramos’ teammates, including the club’s two left-backs, Cristiano Ronaldo, Jese and Casemiro.

“Madrid never have problems scoring goals. When Ronaldo plays the game begins 1-0,” the Coach said.

“Gareth Bale came from England and there are cases of players having problems then but Bale didn’t. I don’t know what he will do next.

“I didn’t think the goal he scored in the Cup final was possible. It was like he was on a motorbike.

“Casemiro helped us in Dortmund with a lot of quality and personality.

“Marcelo’s goal [in the Champions League final] ended the game and at that moment of happiness I realised La Decima was home.

“Fabio Coentrao deserved to play the final because of how he played against Bayern Munich.

“Jese was a surprise to everyone. I saw him train and I saw what a talent he was. With him the League might have been different.”

Asked for his thoughts on Madrid’s transfer business this summer, Ancelotti dismissed suggestions an extensive recruitment drive is in order.

“There’s no need to do much in the summer,” he said.

“The base is very strong. We just need a little bit.”
