‘Buy a top name? Madrid have them all’

Florentino Perez has suggested Real Madrid won’t make a big-name signing this summer as the club already has the best players in the world.

Perez conducted a lengthy interview with Onda Cero and his comments have been published by AS.

As well as insisting Iker Casillas will remain at Santiago Bernabeu and acknowledging the club became obsessed by winning La Decima, Perez was asked about Madrid’s transfer plans for the summer.

“Sign a great player? We’ve got them all,” the President said.

“Right now I only think about the players we have, who are the best.

“I don’t know what will happen because the market is open until August 31, but we have no urgency.”

Two names were put to Perez, one player he might have signed a year ago and a player Madrid have been linked with regularly in recent months – Barcelona’s Neymar and Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero.

“I honestly don’t know what he cost, but I was willing to pay for him at the level of the best players,” Perez said of the Brazil international.

“I honestly haven’t contemplated [a move for Aguero]. He’s not in our thoughts.

“Having too many good players is as bad as not having any. It was very difficult managing [Gonzalo] Higuain and [Karim] Benzema last year.

“This year with the departure of Higuain, it’s been easier. I don’t know if it’s good having two very good players in each position.”

Perez also touched on the Madrid supporters, admitting they put a lot of pressure on the club and the players but crediting the crowd with making Madrid what they are.

“The fans of Real Madrid, no matter what you do, always demand more,” Perez said.

“It’s an extraordinary loyalty but also very demanding. You can’t let your guard down.

“When new players come and they’re whistled, I have to explain. But this requirement has made Madrid the myth and legend, and that’s thanks to the fans.”
