Alba: Barca were disrespected

Jordi Alba has hit out at Barcelona’s critics last season, claiming the players were disrespected.

The Spain left-back acknowledged that it wasn’t a good year for La Blaugrana but said the players were well aware of that and didn’t need telling.

“I’ve seen such disrespect of the players,” Sport reports Alba saying when interview on Onda Cero.

“It’s everyone’s opinion. I can’t speak about the Press – you’re doing fine with me.

“When you do things wrong, you realise. There are all kinds of opinions. When you do something wrong you don’t need anyone to tell you.”

Alba also defended Tata Martino, the now ex-Coach, stressing that the players hold responsibility for what happens on the pitch.

“The players play. The Coach can fix things but we play,” he said.

“Maybe, sometimes, we’ve had no luck. Sometimes the opponent was better.

“It was a bad season but certainly the next one will be better.

“[Luis Enrique] is a motivating character. I saw good things in his presentation. I’ve heard about him and I’m eager. I’m sure it will work out.”

Alba also touched on the summer, with a number of new faces expected at Camp Nou and the exit of some of his current colleagues.

Gerard Deulofeu is also expected to be part of the Barca squad next season and Alba welcomed the winger’s presence.

“He’s a great player. I’m sure he’ll do fine at Barcelona,” he said of the former Everton loan player.

“He’s certainly a different player and furnishes us with many options, for the national team and Barca.

“It’s not easy when a friend leaves. You have lived together and there’s friendship. At the end many others come in.”
