Filipe: No World Cup dream

Filipe Luis has admitted he has given up on playing for Brazil at the World Cup after being left out of the squad for this year’s tournament.

AS reports the Atletico Madrid defender as telling Globo that Felipe Scolari’s decision to leave him out of the 23-man squad defies explanation.

“Sometimes I don’t understand the criteria for picking a national team player,” the left-back said.

“I don’t dream of winning the World Cup. I’m on vacation.”

Despite his absence from the group, Filipe still wished his country well, for his friends in the squad and the country as a whole.

“I have many friends there, especially Maxwell and Marcelo,” he added.

“I really hope Brazil can win because the Brazilian people deserve it. They’re a suffering people who have to put up with a lot from the government and they deserve this joy.”

Talk also turned to the Champions League final after Atletico were beaten by Real Madrid on Saturday.

“Nobody likes to lose and we really wanted to win this title, but now we have to congratulate Real Madrid,” he continued.

“They had a great season and have a great team with great players.

“Now we have to lift our heads high and think about the next goal.”

On his personal future, Filipe insisted he expects to remain at Vicente Calderon.

“I have a contract for three years and my thought is to continue,” he confirmed.
