Simeone ‘learned from Pep and Mou’

Diego Simeone has revealed he has learned from the approaches of Pep Guardiola and Jose Mourinho.

Simeone spoke to El Laguero on Cadena Sur and revealed his belief that the neutrals in Spain support Atletico Madrid in the title fight with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

Sport reports that Cholo also confirmed he had monitored the career of Mourinho, and been inspired by the style of Guardiola’s Barca side.

“I learned from the two, took important things from both,” he admitted.

“I saw something different in them and I always emphasise that Mourinho has had to be in different places.

“He has won in several locations and that, like it or not, is an issue that should be discussed.

“Guardiola, from elsewhere, has another idea, which is the best thing that can happen to all of us in football, to see Barcelona play football.”

But Simeone rejected a possession-based approach for his side, mocking those who argue that retaining the ball is the priority.

“I argue with everyone who believes there is only one way to play football, because there is no one way to live,” he continued.

“Everyone chooses to live the way they want and no one is better or worse than another.

“If you want to live and live well, you’re happier. If you want to be a Coach, you’re probably happier.

“There is actually a saying that making 10 passes is better than one but I don’t share it.”
