Spanish police have made an arrest after a banana was thrown at Barcelona’s Dani Alves in Sunday’s win over Villarreal, Marca has reported.
The fan who allegedly threw the banana has already had his Villarreal membership withdrawn and been banned from El Madrigal for life.
Villarreal have offered their apologies to Alves, who responded to the banana being thrown by taking a bite from it and sparking an internet trend of players being pictured eating bananas in support of the Brazil defender.
