Diego Costa believes both Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid deserve their places in the Champions League final.
The striker scored a penalty as Los Colchoneros beat Chelsea 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in the second-leg of their semi-final, 24 hours after Real Madrid eliminated holders Bayern Munich with a 5-0 aggregate win.
Costa spoke to Canal+ immediately after the final whistle and said that Atleti were fully aware of the importance of an away goal after the first-leg ended 0-0.
“Both Madrid and us deserve to be in the final equally,” SportYou reports the Spain international as saying.
“Their team was quiet, although [Fernando] Torres scored, we knew that our goals were worth double.”
Costa left the match early and confirmed that he took a knock in the build-up to Arda Turan’s goal, Atletico’s third of the night.
