Ancelotti: Win it for Xabi

Carlo Ancelotti wants Real Madrid to win the Champions League final for the suspended Xabi Alonso.

Los Blancos beat Bayern Munich 4-0 on Tuesday – 5-0 on aggregate – to book their place in the final next month.

But the Spain international will miss the match after picking up a booking this evening.

“The game was on the right track at 3-0, but not finished. I remember losing a final when we were 3-0 up,” he told Sky Sport Italia.

“I didn’t think it was a yellow card offence, we’re disappointed for the player, but we’ll try to win for him too.

“It was a surprising result, one you can only get with the perfect performance and that’s what we did.

“It was important for this team to reach a final after three semi-final eliminations. We’ll give it our all, clearly with huge motivation.

“We played to the best of our abilities. Football is balance above all else, defending and attacking. We did everything well and that gave us a result like that.”

Ancelotti will face either his former club Chelsea or Liga rivals Atletico Madrid in the Final in Lisbon next month.

“I wouldn’t know who to pick. On the one side Chelsea have experience, on the other Atletico Madrid have enthusiasm and incredible hunger.

“I think the work we did from January onwards was very positive, the side is in good physical shape and we’re in the balance for the Liga too.”

Ancelotti laughed when he was asked if he had killed Tiki-Taka.

“No, it’ll never die deep down.”
