‘Barca have something to prove’

Javier Mascherano believes Barcelona have something to prove after losing to Granada and the Copa del Rey final is the perfect platform.

A Yacine Brahimi goal gave Granada the victory and despite Barca having most of the ball, they struggled to find a way back into the game.

Marca reports that in a post-match interview, Mascherano called for the Catalans to dig deep and show their worth against Real Madrid on Wednesday after two defeats in two games, including the Champions League reverse against Atletico Madrid.

“In both games we’ve been knocked out of one competition and we’re halfway out of another,” the midfielder-turned-centre-back said.

“The League is no longer in our hands but now is when we need to prove ourselves.

“On Wednesday we have a final in which we have to give everything, as we did today.

“We deserve a great game for ourselves, to give us joy.

“The ball wouldn’t go in but I don’t want excuses. The team is in a moment when we get a half chance and need to score a goal, and we generate chance after chance but can’t.

“We need to lift our heads. I don’t think the Champions League affected us. We had a good game but lacked any luck.”
