Xavi Hernandez has put Barcelona’s Champions League quarter-final defeat to Atletico Madrid down to their inability to take their chances.

A Koke goal in the first few minutes was enough to put Los Colchoneros in the final four, winning 1-0 on the night and 2-1 on aggregate.

According to SportYOU, Xavi told Canal+ that the Catalans could have won the game if they weren’t so profligate.

“I don’t know if the deserved to win. We’ll see when we watch the game back,” the midfielder said.

“We had four or five clear chances and they have taken their only in the first 15 minutes. We deserved at least extra-time.”

Xavi did however wish Atletico good luck for the rest of the competition and congratulated Los Rojiblancos on the victory.

Atletico are joined by Real Madrid, Chelsea and holders Bayern Munich in Friday’s draw.
