Xavi Hernandez has said some of his Spain teammates are being overly critical of Sergio Busquets for the incident with Pepe in El Clasico.
Busquets was accused by a number of Real Madrid players of stamping on the face of the defender, with the likes of Xabi Alonso and Iker Casillas castigating the Barcelona midfielder for the altercation.
But Sport reports Xavi as saying Busquet’s didn’t stamp on the Portugal international and the pictures speak for themselves.
“There’s no need to defend Busquets. The images do. It’s clear he didn’t tread on Pepe,” Xavi said.
“Even some of [Busquets’] teammates have wronged him.”
Sport suggests that the differing views over the incident could even cause problems for Spain ahead of the World Cup.
