Barca members vote for Camp Nou revamp

72 per cent of Barcelona members have given their backing for the remodelling of Camp Nou.

Blaugrana supporters casted their votes on Saturday, and the club have confirmed that nearly three quarters of them have agreed to the changes proposed by the Catalan side.

“I’m very satisfied. It’s a great day, a democratic festival for the Barça members,” President Josep Maria Bartomeu told Barca TV.

“Voting made me very happy, as did seeing so many votes cast by members. It’s a huge project that will improve the club for years to come.

“The most important thing is that the members decide [the future of the club] in a massive way.

“We should give an example of our democratic values, and the whole world will see it.

“The members have given me strength. We will continue to work very hard like we always have and we continue to solve problems.”

The ‘Espai Barca’ project will see Camp Nou be upgraded to a 105,000 capacity, as well as building an ice rink, new basketball arena and a revamp of the club’s offices and La Masia complex.

Completion is set for 2021.
