‘Ronaldo won’t play tomorrow’

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Real Madrid will be without Cristiano Ronaldo for the game against Real Sociedad.

The Coach spoke at a pre-match Press conference and said that the forward won’t travel to Anoeta. Instead he will remain in Madrid for further rehabilitation on his knee injury.

“Tomorrow Cristiano will rest. He is tired and has a bit of a problem,” Ancelotti revealed.

“We prefer him to stay in Madrid, work and get ready for the next game.

“On Tuesday [against Borussia Dortmund] he will be fresher and can recover better.

“He has played a lot of games. We just want him to rest.”

Ronaldo was substituted with 10 minutes to go in Madrid’s 3-0 win over Dortmund on Wednesday.

Asked who will step in for the Portuguese, Ancelotti insisted there were a number of possibilities.

“We have options. I’ll decide tomorrow. Alvaro Morata could play, we could change Isco’s position or move the other forwards around.

“Gareth Bale is playing very well, consistently. He could change positions with Cristiano missing.

“I’ve spoken with Cristiano and together we decided it was better he rested. It’s normal he wants to play all the game but there’s no problem.”
