Faus: No coincidence

Barcelona’s Vice-president of finances Javier Faus says he believes the club have been victims of attempts to destabilise them for years.

He added that it was no coincidence that the club have now been banned from transfer activities until 2015 after being found guilty of breaking rules over the international tranfers of players under the age of 18.

“Nothing that is happening is a coincidence,” Faus told Radio 4 this morning. “Five years ago Barca were the victims of a series of accusations, such as doping and perceived aggression by our Coaches Guardiola and Tito.

“These declarations were made by certain people who have nothing to do with what is going on at the club.

“Then there were allegations over Messi, then Neymar. It’s not all by chance. If Barca as an institution, along with the fans, aren’t strong, these things will do us harm.

“Our idea is to move forward together. People are trying to destroy the image of Barca but they won’t succeed.

“We are saying enough. We are looking at who is behind all of this and when we have proof we will reveal everything.

“A lot of people cannot accept that Barca win everything and that we’ve been the leaders in world football for the last ten years.

“La Masia is focused on a way of understanding football and it is a shame that our academy has been brought into focus.

“No club around the world has invested as much as we have in the development of young players.”
