Ancelotti: Ronaldo sub a precaution

Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed Cristiano Ronaldo was withdrawn early from Real Madrid’s win over Borussia Dortmund as a precaution.

The forward scored the game’s third goal but was replaced by Casemiro for the final 10 minutes of the 3-0 victory.

Speaking at a post-match Press conference, Ancelotti put to bed any speculation Ronaldo had suffered a significant recurrence of his knee injury.

“I took Cristiano off as a precaution as we had to defend harder. I wanted to rest him,” Ancelotti said.

“Cristiano isn’t injured. It’s just a minor annoyance.”

Ancelotti was also asked about the performance of Isco, who replaced the ill Angel Di Maria and scored the second goal.

“Isco only needs to get used to his new position. It has more implication for defensive work,” Ancelotti replied.

“We had some problems in the second-half as we put a lot of effort into the first-half,” the Italian continued.
