‘Atletico won’t change for CL’

Former Atletico Madrid defender Clemente has said the team won’t change the way they for the Champions League tie with Barcelona.

The clubs were paired together in today’s draw but haven’t been separated in their two meetings so far this season, recording draws in both the Super Cup – with Barca winning on penalties – and their only League meeting to date.

AS reports Clemente as predicting Atleti will play La Blaugrana with the same attitude they always have.

“We will play with the same ideas we have all season,” Clemente said.

“I don’t know if it’s an advantage that the second game is at Vicente Calderon. In the recent games we haven’t been able to win.

“It’s anyone’s guess. We have to face the games as they are. The opponent has incredible potential but Atletico is a team that insists on hard work.”

Barca play Real Madrid this weekend but second-place Atletico have a vested interest in the outcome of the match and its effect on the title race.

“You never know what’s a good result,” Clemente added.

“The good thing for us is to win at Real Betis, then whatever else happens is between them.

“Obviously if you cut the points gap then it’s better but it’s useless if we fail to win.”
