Simeone avoids title talk

Atletico Madrid Coach Diego Simeone has said he won’t talk about his side’s chances of winning the League yet.

Simeone oversaw a 1-0 win against Espanyol on Saturday to leave Los Colchoneros in second place, three points behind Real Madrid and a point clear of Barcelona, who play Osasuna on Sunday.

Diego Costa scored the only goal of the game and speaking after the final whistle, Simeone told a Press conference that the game was as difficult as the score line suggests.

“It was hard because it stayed 1-0. We couldn’t get the second goal to finish the game off,” said El Cholo.

“The tension remained but the team controlled the game well. We were a little unfocused in the first half but what the players are doing is extraordinary.

“They give everything to get results and keep clean sheets. We’re still alive in the League and the Champions League.”

But despite his contention that Atletico are involved in the title race, Simeone insisted he wouldn’t say if he thought Atleti could pip Madrid and Barca to the title until more games have been played.

“I’ve said before, I’ll speak about the League title when there are five games left and nothing more,” the Argentine insisted.
