Turan: Goal was for the fans

Arda Turan has said his goal against Milan in the Champions League was to repay the support of the Atletico Madrid fans.

Turan scored as Atleti dispatched the Serie A side 5-1 on aggregate to progress to the Champions League quarter finals for the first time in 17 years.

The Turkey international explained to Marca that he celebrated the goal so passionately in order to show the fans what it meant to him.

“I celebrated with great force because I wanted to celebrate with the fans who show me so much love and are always with us. It was a way to thank them,” he confirmed.

“I always think more about assists than goals but against Milan I shot and it went in.

“This team assumes responsibility on the biggest occasions and we try to do things right in these matches.

“I also note that my teammates have confidence in me and that makes me happy.

“There are no easy or difficult games, we just have to face them all with concentration and tackle whoever we get in the quarter finals.

“This is about us, not whoever comes out of the draw.”
