Zubi: Title out of Barca’s hands

Barcelona sporting director Andoni Zubizarreta has admitted the destination of the League title isn’t for Barca to decide.

La Blaugrana were beaten by Real Valladolid on Saturday and could be four points behind Real Madrid by the close of play on Sunday.

Los Blancos host Levante while Atletico Madrid’s win over Celta Vigo saw Los Colchoneros go a point ahead of Barca, into second, level on points with Real.

“We were slow, very slow, and didn’t have fluidity and speed,” Zubizarreta is quoted as saying by AS.

“We didn’t win the one on ones in the first half. We were better in the second half and we won everything then but we couldn’t get level.

“The pitch hasn’t helped. The players couldn’t find the way. They had the ball but couldn’t get back into the game.

“It’s a tough loss but we have to gather ourselves quickly. We have an important game on Wednesday.

“[The title race] depends on what happens with the teams above us, it doesn’t only depend on us.

“We’ll see how the rest of the season goes but we’re not helped by this start.

“The League is long and it isn’t lost with one day or one game. We’ve got to learn from the pain of defeat.”
