Cristiano Ronaldo has insisted records don’t matter after becoming Portugal’s all-time top scorer.
The Real Madrid forward scored twice in his country’s 5-1 win over Cameroon, his 48th and 49th goals for Portugal.
Ronaldo’s brace saw him surpass Pauleta as Portugal’s record scorer but he said after the match that he wasn’t interested in making history.
“I’m not looking to break records,” Ronaldo told reporters.
“It happens naturally, with hard work, dedication and an excellent team and a good Coach.
“I knew that sooner or later it was going to happen.”
